Dartford Council Chooses Neoteris To Provide Secure Remote Access For Mobile Council Workers And Remote Offices
Instant Virtual Extranet Provides Secure Access to Workers in Borough and Surrounding Parishes without the Cost and Complexity of VPN and Dial-Up Solutions
London - October 13, 2003—Neoteris™, Inc., the leading Application Security Gateway vendor with more than 550 enterprise customers and one million users worldwide1, today announced that the Dartford Borough Council has implemented the Neoteris Instant Virtual Extranet (IVE) Access Series™ appliance. Mobile and home office workers, who are responsible for providing local government services to more than 85,000 residents of Dartford Borough and surrounding parishes, now have secure access to applications and information on the council’s computer network.
The implementation, which was completed by Network Alliance, a Neoteris partner, will play an important role in supporting the rapid population growth and extensive new commercial and residential development in the area. Powered by the Access Series, council workers in the field and at remote offices can now securely access a wide range of information, including a custom client/server housing repairs application using any device enabled with a Web browser.
“In the past we have found that dial-up remote access is an unacceptable solution because some of our client/server applications require too much bandwidth,” said Richard James, Head of IT, Dartford Borough Council. “We looked at installing a VPN but the implementation would have been complicated and the costs prohibitive. The Neoteris IVE allows us to securely and cost-effectively provide access to applications and information to workers in the field or in remote/home offices. It has proved extremely easy to install and manage, and offers a low cost of ownership. We could perform all the requested tasks out of the box, just as it says on the tin.”
“Network Alliance recommended the Neoteris solution to Dartford Borough Council because none of the alternatives came close to the IVE’s ease of installation and ease of use,” said Adam Woolhouse, managing director of Network Alliance. “The IVE was a great match for the council’s need for secure remote access. It is cost-effective to manage and run, and is very scalable, so we will be able to cope with their needs for some time to come.”
“IVE products are ideal for use in the public sector, and Dartford Borough Council is an excellent example of how a local authority can realise the benefits of providing secure access to its workers,” said Paul Donovan, managing director of Neoteris EMEA Operations. “The public sector is a market that we are very focused on and we believe there is a huge opportunity for us there. Neoteris IVE’s are cost-effective to buy, easy to manage and are highly scalable in their capability to support mobile and remote workers. In addition, because users can access all of their critical applications from any computer or device with a Web browser, IVEs can be used to promote flexible working practices leading to a good work/life balance.”
Neoteris IVE Secure Access Appliances
The Neoteris Access Series provides enterprise-class secure access to network resources for remote employees, customers, and partners. Contrary to traditional access technologies, there is no client software to install because Neoteris leverages SSL for secure, controlled access to resources via any Web browser. The Neoteris Access appliances also eliminate the need to secure or harden servers, or make changes to existing infrastructure. The result is cost-effective secure access solution that is easy for customers to deploy and simple for end-users to operate.
Neoteris Access appliances provide application-layer access, stringent access controls, and granular auditing and reporting capabilities to further minimize IT headaches and security concerns. Additionally, the IVE platform offers enterprise-class high availability and performance scalability options, so secure access can be deployed on a wide scale without worrying about user downtime, lost productivity or network performance. Neoteris IVE appliances have passed rigorous security audits by TruSecure Corporation, Cryptography Research, Inc., and security and forensic computing expert Dan Farmer. The products have also won numerous awards as an innovative and compelling access solution, helping enterprises increase efficiency and productivity.
